چکیده

Connectivity problems like k-Path and k-Disjoint Paths relate to many important milestones in parameterized complexity, namely the Graph Minors Project, color coding, and the recent development of techniques for obtaining kernelization lower bounds. This work explores the existence of polynomial kernels for various path and cycle problems, by considering nonstandard parameterizations. We show polynomial kernels when the parameters are a given vertex cover, a modulator to a cluster graph, or a (promised) max leaf number. We obtain lower bounds via cross-composition, e.g., for Hamiltonian Cycle and related problems when parameterized by a modulator to an outerplanar graph. keywords: parameterized complexity, kernelization, upper and lower bounds, graphs, path and cycle problems

Kernelization Using Structural Parameters on Sparse Graph Classes

Meta-theorems for polynomial (linear) kernels have been the subject of intensive research in parameterized complexity. Heretofore, there were meta-theorems for linear kernels on graphs of bounded genus, H-minor-free graphs, and H-topological-minor-free graphs. To the best of our knowledge, there are no known meta-theorems for kernels for any of the larger sparse graph classes: graphs of bounded...

11. Kernel Lower Bounds - COMP6741: Parameterized and Exact Computation

Fixed-parameter tractability Definition 2. A parameterized problem Π is fixed-parameter tractable (FPT) if there is an algorithm solving Π in time f(k) · poly(n), where n is the instance size, k is the parameter, poly is a polynomial function, and f is a computable function. Theorem 3. Let Π be a decidable parameterized problem. Π has a kernelization ⇔ Π is FPT. 2 A kernel for Hamiltonian Cycle...

A new heuristic method based on CPM in SALBP

The task of balancing of assembly lines is well-known in mass production system but this problem is NP-hard even for the simple straight line. Therefore, utilizing heuristic methods for these problems is totally unquestionable. Furthermore, in line with balancing problems, heuristic methods are the foundation of the metaheuristic methods, thus it seems to be necessary to use more efficient heur...

Preprocessing Subgraph and Minor Problems: When Does a Small Vertex Cover Help?

We prove a number of results around kernelization of problems parameterized by the size of a given vertex cover of the input graph. We provide three sets of simple general conditions characterizing problems admitting kernels of polynomial size. Our characterizations not only give generic explanations for the existence of many known polynomial kernels for problems like q-Coloring, Odd Cycle Tran...

A path following interior-point algorithm for semidefinite optimization problem based on new kernel function

In this paper, we deal to obtain some new complexity results for solving semidefinite optimization (SDO) problem by interior-point methods (IPMs). We define a new proximity function for the SDO by a new kernel function. Furthermore we formulate an algorithm for a primal dual interior-point method (IPM) for the SDO by using the proximity function and give its complexity analysis, and then we sho...
